Community Based Parenting ASSESsMENTS

Our assessors have the cross-cultural expertise to effectively engage with families from diverse ethnic backgrounds, including those who have migrated to the UK and may find it challenging to navigate a eurocentric welfare system.

WE UNDERTAKE ASSESSMENTS OF BME FAMILIES WHEN:
• Allegations of neglect, physical, emotional or sexual abuse have been made.
• Cultural factors may impact safeguarding, including myths, religious beliefs, trafficking, black magic, taboos or cultural practises like female genital mutilations (FGM).
• Barriers impacting parenting capacity, such as languages, isolation, disability, poverty or immigrations status.
• Challenges around identity (e.g. multi-racial or migrant children), as well as risks linked to gangs, substance misuse, CSC, social exclusion affecting children or young people.
Our assessors speak multiple languages needed to support families from different backgrounds and are experienced in working alongside translators. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring valuable insights and expertise where cultural, religious or identity factors are relavant to the assessment.

FORMAT OF ASSESSMENT:
Most referrers will provide a letter of instruction setting out the areas of concern they want addressed. We usually provide guidance to the referrers as to the sort of issues an assessment can typically resolve and aim to work in consultation with the referrer.
The service will work in partnership with the commissioned Local Authority and other agencies to achieve the best outcomes for children. We aim to read back files where there is a history and will provide preliminary findings at the mid-way stage of the assessment.
We aim to provide a CV upon request and will try to suit your requirements; our assessors are DBS checked and registered with Social Work England.
